Water management

Freshwater is a finite and vulnerable resource, which is essential to human welfare. Proactive and appropriate water management is required in order to tackle the challenges we are facing with increase in demands for drinking water, for agricultural and industrial activities, and for a sustainable environment.

The issues are complex and conflict of interest often arise when addressing issues such as water allocation, use of surface water and groundwater, reservoir development and dam operation, land use changes, pollution control, and environmental protection.

Priorities may be chosen between sector interest, upstream and downstrem users, and basic choices between food and energy production.

MIKE BASIN is a powerful tool for transparent and open river basin managment and planning. It combines the power of GIS with comprehensive hydrologic modeling to highlight problems and provide answers for decision makers. MIKE BASIN is widely used around the World, not only for water allocation, but also for broad-scale environmental analyses.

For detailed investigations MIKE SHE offers a strong alternative, when process-oriented approaches are required, e.g.  for conjunctive use analysis or detailed water quality investigations.
