Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh The Northern part of the Bay of Bengal along the coast of Bangladesh is particularly vulnerable to storm surges and coastal flooding generated by tropical cyclone activity. The most recent severe cyclone hit Bangladesh in April 1991 producing a surge height of more than 6 meters along a coastal stretch of 240 km, inundating large coastal areas and offshore islands. Burdekin Shire, Australia In 1989 tropical cyclone Aivu passed through the Burdekin Shire inundating large areas of the Shire resulting in significant infrastructure and agricultural losses. To facilitate a disaster risk management plan, the Burdekin Shire Council commissioned the development of a disaster management strategy. Capa Canaveral, FL USA Florida is regularly exposed to hurricanes and often with severe damages and even fatalities. The location of Kennedy Space Center makes it particular vulnerable and exposed to hurricanes, and historically buildings and infrastructures have sustained costly damages from both wind and rainfall. Trelleborg, Sweden As part of a coastal study that Trelleborg Municipality has commissioned the influence of sea level rise on erosion and coastal flooding using an IPCC climate scenario was investigated.
